My boyfriend and I just bought a house on the eastern shore in Queenstown, MD. We have lived in Federal Hill for 3 years now and it was time to move on and settle down somewhere a little calmer than the city. I found a CrossFit gym near my new home so I plan to continue to train over there. Hopefully they will be as welcoming and helpful as CFH.
Tell us about your experience at CFH?
I came to CFH when it opened basically just looking to lose weight. I have been trying to lose weight for about 2 years and have been unsuccessful with all the other forms of exercising I had tried. I was also bored with running and bopping around aimlessly at the gym. When I walked into CFH and did my first workout I knew I found what I was looking for. Coach Geo and Brian were so welcoming and helpful. I still have to scale a lot of the WODs down so that I can complete them but the Coaches have supported me all the way through the process. Even while I was having trouble with sore knees, they were able to help me tailor the WOD so that I was still getting stronger and getting a good workout while still avoiding pain and injury and that had a huge impact on me.
How did the community effect you?
The CFH community has had a huge impact on me. I met so many amazing people and I feel really connected with everyone even if I have never talked to them before. CFH provided the structure and support I needed to continue on my fitness journey. The other members are so incredibly supportive. When I needed a boost, they were there. They challenged me to challenge myself. They congratulated me when I reached a new goal or did something new. We whined about the WODs together then patted each other on the back when we got through it. All together. It is truly an amazing group of people.
What will you take away from CFH?
First of all I want to state that I will NOT walk away from CFH weighing less than when I started. Although that was my original goal, I will leave CFH with SO much more than any weight loss. I have learned a ton about myself and my self esteem has sky rocketed since I started crossfit. I look around the room and I see that everyone has strengths and weaknesses. I have strengths and weaknesses. We are all different but we are all beautiful. As a woman it is sometimes really difficult to say to yourself “I am beautiful”. I look at myself in the mirror now and I think I am beautiful. I weigh exactly the same weight as I did 3 months ago but I know all the crazy things my body can do and that is so much more rewarding than the number on the scale.
Last thing I want to do is thank Coach Geo and Brian. Thanks for learning my name and getting to know me. Thanks for working through my injury. Thanks for just asking how I am doing. I really appreciate the individualized attention that I feel like I got because most normal gyms are so busy they don’t get to know their members. Anyway thanks everyone for everything and I will miss you all!!
