CFH Clean Eating Challenge Recap!
Today’s success story comes from Colm. This is one is a longer read, but well worth it!

“I came into the challenge after a solid holiday season of celebrating and looking to continue on a path to make positive choices on how I live my life. After a hard hitting Halloween weekend in Vegas, I gave up booze. On Jan, 10th, I started this challenge feeling plateaued in my workouts and weighing in at a bloated 210. Over the course of the first two weeks, the sugar withdrawal was the most difficult and therefore most alarming. Withdrawing from sugar affected me harder than coming off nicotine, caffeine, or alcohol.

Once through the sugar maple forest, it was smooth. Energy levels were high and consistent all day. My strength and workout times improved. And what about sleep? Since my time in the Army, I have developed restless leg syndrome. It’s not every night but consistent enough. There is no “cure” for it but it can be medicated with drugs used for Parkinson’s. Meds, especially for non life threatening issues, are not really my thing. Since making these dietary changes, my legs have been still and I have had some of the best deep sleep in years. How many other modern ailments are caused by our diet?

Eating clean is difficult on the road. I travel almost every week for work. On the last night of the challenge, I was sitting in a restaurant as bananas fosters was brought out. A dessert worthy of cheating. Instead of ordering a celebratory dessert, I found that the physical addiction to sugar has passed. I felt full from my double helping of seasonal vegetables and decided then to keep the challenge going.

As of this morning, I weighed in 199 lbs. I added a round plus to the retest at a higher weight. I am 3 and half months alcohol free. Life is good”

Skill WOD

EMOM for 12 minutes
Even: 10-15 Toes to Bar
Odd: 8-12 Ring Rows
No Score

WOD

10 Shuttle Sprints
6 Power Cleans
30 Seconds Rest
6 Rounds
Fitness: 115/75
RX: 155/105
RX+ 185/125
Shuttle Sprint starts at the 3 garage doors.  One Rep/sprint is down and touching the wall.  Down and back = 2.  Each set will end with the athlete running through the garage doors to find their bar and work their power cleans.  Ideally the front gym is open and the back gym has all the bars.  The cleans should be a challenging weight today.
