The 2016 CrossFit Open has come to a close. As you reflect on your open experience keep everything in perspective. The open does not define you, it should only make you stronger. A bar muscle up does not mean you are fit or unfit, it should transfer into motivation to work harder. I have competed in every single CrossFit open. Nothing to brag about considering you just sign up for it. But, each year I grow as an athlete and a person.
As a person it is difficult to put yourself out there. To sign up, knowing you will be asked about your score, have to perform in front of others, be ranked, scored and judged. But, when it is over you feel a sense of accomplishment. As you look back on the experience you should feel a sense of team, commitment and camaraderie. Leaning on the community, making friends and coming out on the other side should leave you feeling stronger.
As an athlete you know you will be exposed. You know that it will never be good enough. There will be triumphs and there will be fails. The best thing you can do now is use that fire to get better. If you are not satisfied with something then work on improving it. Failure is part of being ambitious. If you succeeded in everything you did in life you would be a soft ball of jello with no backbone and no sense of adventure. So get out there, test, fail and learn from your experiences. Together we will constantly be striving for excellence.
