Athlete Spotlight – Wendy M.

wendy1

Wendy has been a member at CFH for just under a year now and has made some amazing progress in that time. She is a Baltimore City Police Officer and mother. Her story of transformation is one that we want to share. Sometimes when you see people at the gym day after day, you forget about where they started. Since committing to CrossFit, Wendy has taken on other challenges like the Halloween Throwdown and the Eat Clean Challenge. Read her story below!

What motivates you to stay consistent with working out and eating well when you are so busy?

I joined CFH on July 11, 2016. What motivates me to stay consistent is seeing my heaviest picture of myself on my refrigerator from 2010 when I was 218lbs and I wore a size 18 in clothes. Even on the days when I’m exhausted my daughter will say “Mom are we going to the gym” so now it’s like I have to go because her little eyes are always watching me.

What is your biggest success since joining CFH?

My biggest success since joining CFH was the Halloween Competition. I was scared to death because I didn’t want to let my teammates down and I didn’t know if I was ready to compete with everyone at that time. Well my teammate and sister girl Ashley said to me ” Wendy today you are going to life something heavier than you would normally do” I looked at her and thought ” I can’t back down now I gotta do this” well I had no idea what weight she was gonna put on the barbell needless to say I lifted it without any problems!! So thanks to Ashley for pushing me on that day.

How did the Eat Clean Challenge impact your way of eating? How has improving your nutrition positively impacted your life?

The Eat Clean Challenge was rough in the beginning because I had to go cold turkey without sugar and that was a first for me. I noticed that I depended on sugar for everything and I also noticed how my body reacted once I withheld the sugar and that was an eye opener. Since the challenge I feel so confident making my food decisions and now I read all labels before placing them in my cart at the grocery store. I meal prep weekly so that while I’m protecting the citizens of Baltimore City I have my food and healthy snacks with me at all times. Which prevents me from eating processed quick foods while I’m working.

Thanks for being such a positive example in our community, Wendy. We can’t wait to see you continue to succeed!
