If you have ever attended a noon class, you have probably been entertained by the comments and humor of Jim K. Jim is a consistent “nooner” and always brings an element of fun to the class. This week when we hit bar MUs in a WOD, Jim was determined to get one in class. Jim’s a modest guy and didn’t even write down his accomplishment on the white board, but we still wanted to give him a shout out this week!
How long have you been doing CrossFit? Was your Bar MU a long time in the making? What helped you to get it?
I’ve been doing CrossFit for about a year and this week was the first time attempting Bar Muscle Ups and I just couldn’t get it done. I stuck around after class, got some tips from a few coaches, and realized it wasn’t nearly as much about strength as it was my terrible form.
How did you feel afterwards? Any advice you would pass on to other athletes?
After roughly twenty more attempts, half a bar of hand chalk, and some choice words, I got one done. It felt great, but also proved a few inevitable points about what we all are doing at CrossFit. When a mild amount of strength is coupled with solid form, a bit of “if they can do it, I can do it”, and a ton of chalk, anything is possible.
On a more serious note, Jim has been developing strength in his kip and pull ups for several months now. This, along with all the chalk and can-do attitude is what got him to his bar MU. Great work Jim! We are super proud for your accomplishment!
