Athlete Spotlight – Old Members Hitting New PR’s

Sean C., Nicole C. and June all hit new back squat PR’s recently. Sean, Nicole, and June are all long-time CFH athletes. If you have been in the game for a while you know that PR’s become harder and harder to come by the longer you train. This is for a couple reasons – one is that strength-based gains become increasingly difficult to come by. Another reason, we believe is more psychological. The longer you’ve done something, the more complacent you become with your way of doing it – you may not really listen or pay attention when the coach warms up the movement because you think “I’ve done this a million times before.” You may not be as mindful when you go through the movements in a Metcon when they begin to feel like second nature. There is a great quote from Greg Glassman that goes,

“Stick to the basics and when you feel you’ve mastered them it’s time to start all over again, begin anew – again with the basics – this time paying closer attention”

Newer athletes hit PR’s more frequently because they have a lot more to gain in terms of strength, but they are also constantly listening and making improvements to their technique. Technique can be improved at any level. Continuous improvement requires hard work, and it also requires the  humility to recognize that any movement, regardless of proficiency or experience level can always be improved upon.

Way to go Sean, Nicole, and June. Keep getting stronger!
