Wendy and Rachel met in Foundations and now have a bond as strong as them!
I tried CrossFit because of Megan Wall (who is literal human sunshine) – her enthusiasm for it was so infectious and I just had to know what she was raving about. Before starting CrossFit I was in kind of a crappy place in life – I was unhappy, unhealthy, and just felt super out of wack. I had just graduated and needed something to get excited about
I used to get really embarrassed during workouts about things I couldn’t do. I didn’t have a lot of self confidence and I wasted a ton of mental energy worrying about what other people thought about me… All that made me sort of dread going to the gym. I forced myself to go consistently long enough that I realize no one really cared how many times I tripped on a box jump, or how slow I was running. So soon I stopped caring and started to love going to the gym for the first time. That’s overall the best part of CrossFit – it’s the first gym I’ve gone to where everyone seems to actually want to be there.
CrossFit has impacted my life in all sorts of ways… But the confidence it helped me gain gave me the strength to make some big life changes. It made me feel strong, and capable and a part of something which really changed how I handled all other parts of my life. There were a lot of things in my life that were making me unhappy but I didn’t have the courage to change them. CrossFit made me a hell of a lot braver. And it surrounded me with people that were super inspiring… I’m so lucky to be a part of a community with such bad ass people.
If someone was thinking about trying CrossFit, I would tell them to stop doubting themselves. It doesn’t matter what you can’t do (yet). There is something for everyone in CrossFit. Be kind, work hard, and have fun. It’ll change your life if you let it. What do you have to lose?!
