What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?

If you could quit your job today and start a new career, your dream job, what would it be? What if someone knocked on your door and offered you that opportunity, would you take it? What if that person believed in you enough to invest in you, but there was no guarantee of long term financial security or success? What if you knew that the road to success would include way more time and work than you currently put in? What if, in committing to this, in addition to working hard, you would need to face every demon within your mind that ever told you you weren’t enough?  Would you do it?

This is a very brief synopsis of the range of emotions I went through when Geo and I began talking several months ago about partnering and opening a new business. I have worked in a field that was the opposite of what I wanted to be doing every day and now I do what I love. Before I made this change, I traded off 8 hours a day being bored, far from content with my life, for security, stability, and comfort. It wasn’t fun, but it was easy.

A few years ago I decided that trade wasn’t working for me any more and I decided to do what I love. I never had a plan – financially or otherwise. My plan was to do what I love and work really hard doing it. I have heard people say that if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. I beg to differ. When you do what you love day in and day out, you put yourself into your work. Putting your heart into something is work. But I believe that it is beautiful work and I have never looked back.

In a few weeks I will be wrapping up my time at CFH. It is an extremely bittersweet feeling. I am both sad and excited at the same time. We encounter decisions like the one I made several months ago all of the time. The decisions that you face probably have nothing to do with opening a new business- or maybe they do. The common thread is the difference between choosing what’s safe or choosing the thing that scares the living sh*t out of you. To make a long story short, I said yes- my only reason to say no would have been fear, and to me that wasn’t an option. Several months later here we are.

It would be impossible for me to put into words exactly what CFH has meant to me over the past 5 years. It served as a place for me to transform myself, physically, mentally, and emotionally, to build community, and much more. I love this place and I love the people who make it great. I’m sad I won’t get to come here every day, but I’m excited for what’s to come.

Lift Yoga + Strength (website, coming soon!) will be opening soon (exact Grand Opening Date TBD, but we will fill you in when we know) and I would love for each one of you to come and check it out when we open our doors.
